"Not enough energy points. The fee may be up to 50 TRX" Error

TRON network users, especially those who regularly send USDT (TRC-20), often run into an unexpected error:
"Not enough energy points" or failed out of energy

If you have seen this message, read on. We'll explain what it means, why it happens and how to save on fees.

What Is Energy in TRON

TRON is a blockchain with a resource model. Every transaction requires two types of resources:

  • Bandwidth — for regular TRX transfers
  • Energy — for smart contracts (USDT TRC-20 and other tokens)

If a wallet has no energy or bandwidth, the fee is paid by burning TRX.

Where Does the 50 TRX Figure Come From?

  • It all depends on how popular the smart contract is. We have a detailed article on the dynamic resource allocation model.
  • The more often a smart contract is called, the more energy a transfer requires
  • Some wallets may require a minimum TRX balance in order to make a transaction using energy and bandwidth.

For example, until recently Trust Wallet required you to keep more than 30 TRX in your wallet to send a transaction. As a result, sending USDT using energy initially required 44 to 54 TRX.

There Is a Solution

  1. Staking TRX — 13,000 TRX gives approximately 130,000 energy (August 2025)
  2. Manual rental — you have to keep a constant eye on your balance
  3. FeeSaver Smart Mode — set it up once and forget about it. The system automatically adds 131K energy and tops it up as it is used.

Send the TRX amount to the address to receive energy:
Enter the number of transactionsInstant energy purchase
0~0.00 USD 0
Two simple steps:
  1. Step 1:

    Scan the QR code

  2. Step 2:

Send 6 to make a transaction for free

Conclusion

The "not enough energy points" error is simply a signal that you lack the necessary resources. To avoid keeping more than 50 TRX just to make a transfer, rent energy in advance and check whether your wallet requires a minimum TRX balance. With FeeSaver, this takes just a couple of clicks at minimal cost.
